Illinois Flooding - Information Regarding Your Insurance Coverage
As the result of the flooding in Illinois, many Illinois policyholders are experiencing unexpected hardships. Many have been displaced from their residences and businesses and mail delivery may have been disrupted.
We are instituting the following measures to provide some peace of mind that our valued policyholders will not lose insurance coverage when it is needed most. We will follow the guidelines shown below to govern treatment of all consumers affected by the disaster including but not limited to those residing in or for property located in the counties that have been declared disaster areas by Governor Blagojevich or President Bush.
Moratorium on cancellations and nonrenewals.
Issuance of policy cancellation and nonrenewal notices will be suspended until August 18, 2008. In addition, cancellation and nonrenewal notices issued on or after June 10, 2008 will be withdrawn; affected policies will be reinstated without any lapse in coverage.
Other insurance-related time-period extensions.
Affected policyholders will be provided an extension of any and all policy provisions or other requirements that impose a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act, including the submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting of information, submission of bills, or payment of funds. Such extension shall be for a minimum of 60 days from the last date allowed or required under the terms of the contract or allowed or required by us, or longer if deemed reasonable given an individual consumer’s circumstance.
Time-period extension for repairs.
In the event repairs on affected property cannot be completed within the time period required under any policy, or within the 90-day time period for repairs prior to termination due to condition of the property, we shall provide consumers with an extension of not less than 60 days to make such repairs.
Cancellation or nonrenewal respecting affected property.
We will not cancel or nonrenew insurance policies respecting affected property due to "increase in the risk originally accepted" or due to the geographic location of the risk during this period.
Other exceptions to policy or contract requirements or rating or underwriting rules.
Other exceptions may be made on a case by case basis as warranted taking into consideration unique circumstances, disruption in mail delivery and displacement from home or business.
