Auto-Owners has a long and rich history of giving back to the communities where our associates, agents and policyholders live and work. Being a good corporate citizen includes aiding the people in the places where we do business. It involves us contributing not only financially, but also with our time and our talents. Our giving further strengthens the connection between A-O, our local independent agents who represent us, and our policyholders.
Auto-Owners Insurance focuses our philanthropic initiatives and efforts on the enrichment and support of the communities where our associates, agents and policyholders live and work. We do so while keeping in mind that we are a company that values prudence in all investments of time, money and other resources.
Through corporate philanthropy, we are proud to partner with organizations such as the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Susan G. Komen, the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes.
To maximize our collective impact and deepen our commitment to community, we have adopted several company-wide associate giving initiatives. Our annual Suits & Sneakers event benefits the American Cancer Society, and, for a $5 donation, associates can wear sneakers to work for the day. Thanks to our associates, this event has helped to fund cancer research, support patients and educate our communities on the effects of cancer.
In addition, our associates are encouraged to participate in our annual campaign to support United Way, an organization that works to identify challenges in communities and create measurable change by developing a coalition of charitable organizations and partnering with schools, government agencies and other entities. Associates can elect what community area of need they want their donations to be applied to through a one-time or recurring donation throughout the year.
In January 2018, we launched our company giving program called A-O Gives Back. This program was created to expand our giving, and to empower our associates in the 26 states where we write business to support their community. This program provides each region with the opportunity to have a team of associates participate in pre-approved local charity events. In turn, Auto-Owners will corporately sponsor the events, subject to the program guidelines. Through this program, our associates have proudly and generously volunteered their time to many local charitable events. A-O Gives Back is another way that our company connects with the needs of each region where we do business on a local level.
In 2017 we announced the launch of a sweepstakes called Win One + Give One. By partnering with our fellow Martin Truex Jr. No. 78 team sponsor, Furniture Row, as well as the Salvation Army, this contest encouraged fans to create a positive impact in their local community. One lucky fan won a $10,000 shopping spree courtesy of Furniture Row. By winning the sweepstakes, that fan also helped their local community win big! Auto-Owners and Furniture Row made a $10,000 donation to their local chapter of the Salvation Army.
